Ducted air conditioning
Ducted air conditioning installation
Ducted air conditioning is the ultimate in air conditioning as it gives you complete control of what areas of the property you want to cool or heat (whether it be for a residential, commercial or industrial property).
By creating zones, you can reduce power bills by only having the sections you want (cooled or heated) on – zones will also maximise the output of your air conditioner.
If all the rooms in your property don't need air conditioning, this is absolutely fine as the components will simply not be installed to send the cool or warm air into those rooms.
Where is ducted air conditioning installed?
The central unit of the system is installed in the roof space. The ducting is run through the roof space to each room's grill. The refrigerant pipework runs through the roof space to the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit can be positioned anywhere around the property, however it is ideal to have the outdoor unit installed at the most direct route to the central unit.
The positioning of the outdoor unit can be installed on the ground or on brackets above the ground level (this is a good idea if the ground below does not drain particularly well). We can also install it up higher up the wall, over head height, so it is out of the way when walking nearby.
Examples of ducted air conditioning zones
Example zone set-up:
Zone 1: Upstairs
Zone 2: Downstairs
Example zone set-up:

Zone 2: Media room & office
Zone 3: Bedrooms
Any rooms in your property that don't want air conditioning (e.g. garage, bathrooms), components will simply not be installed to send the cool or warm air into those rooms.
When deciding on the zones, we will discuss with you what rooms are ideal to be on at the same time and which area maybe a zone on its own e.g. an open plan kitchen / dining area.
The ducted air conditioning control panel can be installed at a convenient location at a height of your choosing.
Benefits of a ducted air conditioning system
To suit all seasons:
Ducted air conditioning provides both heating and cooling functions.
Quiet operation:
Ducted air conditioning is whisper quiet.
Energy efficient:
Having zones setup, means that only the rooms you wanted cooled or heated receive the air flow.
Health:
The return air grille (also know as air return vent) extracts the air from the room, into the indoor fan unit in the ceiling. The air is then conditioned before being delivered back to the selected rooms (zoning).
Choice of vent style:
Styles include square plates (with 4 way outlets), circular plates and round louvre faced vents.
Control panel:
The easy to use control panel can be installed at a convenient location in your property at a height of your choosing.
Maintenance:
To keep the ducted air conditioning running at its best, the return air grille filter/s should be cleaned every few months (it is fine for the occupant of the property to carry this out). Once per year, it is recommended that the system be serviced professionally.
Refrigerant Handling Licence
PEK Electrical and Data Services hold a Refrigerant Handling Licence with the ARC (Australian Refrigeration Council).
"A Refrigerant Handling Licence must be held by any person who carries out work in relation to refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) equipment. Carrying out work in relation to RAC equipment means to do anything with a fluorocarbon refrigerant, or a component of RAC equipment, that carries the risk of refrigerant being emitted, including: decanting the refrigerant or manufacturing, installing, commissioning, servicing or maintaining RAC equipment or decommissioning RAC equipment.
Handling fluorocarbon refrigerant without a Refrigerant Handling Licence is an offence. National regulations are in place which affect people who acquire, possess, dispose of or handle ozone depleting substances or synthetic greenhouse gases."
