Split system air conditioning
Split system air conditioning installation
A split system air conditioner can provide both heating and cooling options. The indoor component of split systems are now available with a very sleek and minimalistic appearance. They are also very quiet yet can provide maximum comfort.
Generally, a split system air conditioner will last around 10 years before requiring any major repair (however this can be different between brands). It is recommended that a split system be professionally serviced annually.

Where is a split-system air conditioner positioned?
Split system air conditioners are designed to cool or heat single rooms e.g. a living room, office or bedroom (although depending on the floor plan, the cooler or warmer air can travel a little further).
Indoor component of the system:
Generally, if possible, we position the split system indoor unit in the centre of the interior wall that backs on to the external wall.
As well this position being the most efficient way of cooling / heating a room, this minimises the amount of pipes required to connect the indoor unit to the outdoor unit – therefore assisting the unit to run at optimal performance and keeping costs down for the installation.
The water that the indoor unit produces is fed through a conduit to the outside drain.

Outdoor component of the system:
With a free-standing property, the positioning of the split system air conditioning's outdoor unit can be installed on the ground or on brackets above the ground level (this is a good idea if the ground below does not drain particularly well). We can also install it up higher up the wall, over head height, so it is out of the way when walking nearby.
With an upper floor apartment, for example, the outdoor unit would be positioned on the balcony.

The filters of a split system air conditioner should be cleaned every few months (we will show you how you can do this yourself).
Benefits of a split system air conditioner
Upfront cost:
Ideal for a smaller budget as the units themselves can be reasonably priced and the installation requires no ductwork to be installed, therefore the units are easier and quicker to install.
To suit all seasons:
Provides both heating and cooling functions.
Quiet operation:
New split system air conditioners are extremely quiet when operating.
Energy efficient:
Some new systems cost as little as 10 cents an hour to run.
Inverter technology:
Most new split systems come with inverter technology which means the unit provides a more consistent temperature and uses less power.
Remote control:
Split system air conditioners come with an easy to use remote control meaning you don’t have to reach up to the indoor unit itself to turn it on or off or adjust the settings.
Maintenance:
To keep the split system air conditioning running at its best, the air filters should be cleaned every few months of which it is fine for the occupant of the property to carry this out. Then only once per year, it is recommended that the system be serviced professionally.

Refrigerant Handling Licence
PEK Electrical and Data Services hold a Refrigerant Handling Licence with the ARC (Australian Refrigeration Council).
"A Refrigerant Handling Licence must be held by any person who carries out work in relation to refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) equipment. Carrying out work in relation to RAC equipment means to do anything with a fluorocarbon refrigerant, or a component of RAC equipment, that carries the risk of refrigerant being emitted, including: decanting the refrigerant or manufacturing, installing, commissioning, servicing or maintaining RAC equipment or decommissioning RAC equipment.
Handling fluorocarbon refrigerant without a Refrigerant Handling Licence is an offence. National regulations are in place which affect people who acquire, possess, dispose of or handle ozone depleting substances or synthetic greenhouse gases."
